Rakhi’s Background

Dr Rakhi Rashmi was called to the Bar in 2013. She holds a PhD in International Law and has an expansive practice comprising of Immigration, Nationality, Human Rights, detention, and deportation and family matters. She is a Post Doctorate from University of Nice, France. She did her master’s from Sunderland University with distinction.


Dr Rashmi is a dynamic barrister who regularly appearing in all different courts in matters related to Immigration and Family Law. Her family and child law related cases includes Child arrangement orders, Divorces, Non-molestation, international child abduction etc. In Immigration asylum practice she represents in various human rights related matters, deportation, family reunion, elderly dependent relative and entry clearance etc. She has represented in divergent matters of Appeals, Judicial Reviews, Immigration bail and different family related hearings different family courts.


Dr Rashmi also has a considerable experience with corporate immigration matters related to wide range of services such as Points Based System, family-based applications, nationality, visit visas and EEA applications etc. Rashmi has advised companies applying for sponsor licences and represented successfully challenging home Office decisions to refuse their licences.


Dr Rashmi has worked with various Solicitors firms in the past where she managed the clients with excellence. she utilised her skills for the benefit of a divergent migrant community and has built up an exceptionally high success rate in her court cases with meticulous preparation and tenacity in the courtroom. The same added in building a vibrant direct access practice. She regularly assists private clients in their private, business immigration, family, and child related (child contact, divorces, non-molestation etc.) matters.


Dr Rashmi had provided pro bono law clinics on human rights and family related matters with Barnet council on a regular basis. Rashmi acts and advises in the cases related to refugee law, migrant children, and trafficking. Rashmi has considerable experience in range of family law matters ranging from non-molestation, divorces, financial settlement, child law matters related to children contact, custody, international child abduction etc.


Rashmi was involved externally as a Trustee of proposed intervener Migrants Rights Network [MRN] as the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees in several contentious Cases related to migrants.


Dr Rashmi has advised several international organisations and has been widely published internationally in newspapers and magazines. She has previously worked with CNRS GREDEG in France and different High Commissions in Brazil, Peru and Cuba as an adviser. Dr Rashmi’s work on child labour was featured in the UNIFEM Finland Newsletter in 2006.


Dr Rashmi was trained at the World Health Organisation (Southeast Asia Office) and the United Nations University (Maastricht). Dr Rashmi has lectured at Oxford University Innovation (a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Oxford). Dr Rashmi was a visiting fellow at the Kings College Dept of Political Economy 2012-14.
