Makayla Olubisose – Lewis

Makayla Olubisose has a busy common law practice, encompassing crime, civil, family and immigration.

Before coming to the Bar, Makayla worked as a County Court Advocate for several years, specialising in mortgage possessions, landlord and tenant, return of goods under contract, settlements for infants and protected parties – with a focus on road traffic accidents and small claims trials. In addition to this, she dealt with associated and stand-alone applications for setting aside judgements and applications for relief from sanctions. Makayla has represented notable business clients such the mobile network EE Limited and travel company Arriva.

Further to this, Makayla has acquired nearly a decade of experience as a paralegal within Lexcel accredited, multi-disciplinary firms. She has worked on several high profile public inquiries of societal importance including COVID-19 and the Post Office Horizon scandal. Other experience also includes working in the field of financial mis-selling and litigation dealing with unfair relationships between consumers and commercial entities under consumer credit legislation.

In respects of crime, Makayla has assisted in large public disorder and conspiracy trials within the crown court and magistrates. The latter is where she now appears most often, representing clients in cases including driving offences, dangerous dogs and offences against the person.

In respect of immigration, Makayla has dealt with a spectrum of claims, including drafting representation for further/indefinite leave to remain or settlement, making submissions for entry clearance under The Immigration Rules including long residence, work permits, student visas, spousal/dependent visas, applications for residence cards, naturalisation and human rights/discretionary leave. This is in addition to working on judicial reviews and appearing in statutory appeals before the Tribunals.

In family, Makayla has represented and supported divorce and ancillary relief proceedings, applications for non-molestation and occupation orders, private law matters relating to child contact and residence and public law care proceedings. Her civil practice has primarily focused on breach of contract claims and securing summary and default judgments.

Makayla has also completed a brief international placement in China, at an international firm, dealing with foreign investment and corporate conveyancing contracts.

The experience Makayla has acquired to date, forms the foundation of her current practice and offers a unique reservoir of knowledge. She is well acquainted with working in the legal industry with a solid comprehension of legal procedure.
